When did you first realize the 80s were over? There is always a moment. Not a calendar change. Not midnight on December 31, 1989. A real moment. Maybe it was the first time you heard a song on the radio that sounded nothing like the music you grew up with. Maybe MTV looked different. Maybe your favorite show got canceled and nothing replaced it. Maybe the mall felt quieter. Maybe the hair changed. The clothes changed. The vibe shifted and you felt it. For some people it was subtle. For others it was sudden. When did it hit you? What was the exact moment where you thought… something is different now. Was it a song, a movie, a trend, a world event or just a feeling you couldn’t explain?

I realized it with the music. The music started changing a lot towards the late 80s. It didn't have that same sound.

The first time I couldn’t find Aqua Net anywhere lol! That stuff used to have its own shelf. I asked the clerk and she looked at me like I was asking for something ancient. That’s when I knew.

Omg!! You're right! A big sign! For me it was when everyone decided subtle was cool. I hated that. The 80s were about showing up. Big everything. Then all of a sudden it was like we were supposed to tone it down and pretend we never went all out. I remember thinking nope, I’m not apologizing for loving that decade.

Now that made me laugh. Aqua Net was a woman's best friend. The way it was able to hold those monuments on women's heads was amazing.

When the arena shows stopped selling out like they used to. You could feel the energy fading. Bands that used to own the stage suddenly weren’t the thing anymore. That’s when it hit me.
 
That’s a great question. I think for me it was when I was watching videos and I didn’t excited the way I used to. In high school I’d scream when a favorite song came on. This time I just kind of nodded.
