Without a Trace Premiered in Theaters
On this day, February 4, 1983, the mystery drama Without a Trace premiered in theaters. Directed by Stanley R. Jaffe, the film starred Kate Nelligan, Judd Hirsch, David Dukes, and Stockard Channing.

The film tells the heartbreaking story of a mother whose six-year-old son goes missing, leading to a desperate search and a legal battle against law enforcement skepticism. Without a Trace is based on the novel Still Missing by Beth Gutcheon, which itself was loosely inspired by real-life child abduction cases.

Despite its emotional and suspenseful storyline, Without a Trace received mixed reviews but performed modestly at the box office, grossing $9.6 million.

Fun fact: Stockard Channing, who played Jocelyn Norris in Without a Trace, was best known for her role as Rizzo in Grease (1978).

Trivia question: Which 1982 drama film also focused on a family’s desperate search for their missing son and won an Academy Award?
