On This Day September 1 1989 – Motley Crue Dr. Feelgood Released
On this day September 1 1989, Motley Crue released their fifth studio album Dr. Feelgood. This record marked a turning point for the band as they worked with producer Bob Rock to achieve a cleaner more powerful sound while attempting to stay sober for the first time during recording. The result was a commercial and critical success that became their first album to reach number one on the Billboard 200.

The title track Dr. Feelgood along with singles Kickstart My Heart Without You and Same Ol' Situation helped define the peak of glam metal's commercial power in the late 1980s. The album became their best selling to date and remains a staple of the genre.

80s insight: Dr. Feelgood solidified Motley Crue’s place as kings of late 80s hard rock with a sound polished enough for the mainstream yet loud enough for longtime fans.
