On This Day: May 9, 1980 - The Nude Bomb Premieres in Theaters
On this day May 9, 1980, The Nude Bomb premiered in theaters, bringing back Don Adams as secret agent Maxwell Smart in a big screen revival of the classic TV series Get Smart. Directed by Clive Donner, the film followed Agent 86 as he tries to stop a villain threatening to detonate a bomb that would destroy all clothing in the world.

The film also starred Sylvia Kristel and leaned heavily into slapstick humor and absurd spy antics. Despite its nostalgic appeal and a 15 million dollar budget, The Nude Bomb fell just short at the box office, earning 14.7 million dollars.

Fun fact: While the original TV cast was mostly absent, Don Adams returned in full form, and the film helped spark renewed interest in Get Smart during the 80s.
