On This Day: May 3, 1985 - Private Resort Premieres in Theaters
On May 3, 1985, the teen comedy Private Resort was released in theaters. Directed by George Bowers, the film starred a young Johnny Depp in one of his first movie roles alongside Rob Morrow, Emily Longstreth, Toni Azito, Dody Goodman, Leslie Easterbrook, and Hector Elizondo.

Set at a luxury Florida resort, the movie followed two teenage friends chasing girls and getting into trouble over a wild weekend. Made on a modest budget of just 331,000 dollars, Private Resort leaned heavily into the typical 80s teen comedy formula with beach hijinks, slapstick humor, and over the top characters.

Fun fact: Private Resort was Johnny Depp’s first lead role in a theatrical film, just one year before he found mainstream fame with 21 Jump Street.
