On This Day: May 23, 1987 – Helloween Released Keeper of the Seven Keys Part 1
On this day May 23, 1987, Helloween released their second studio album Keeper of the Seven Keys Part 1, a groundbreaking record that helped define the power metal genre. With soaring vocals, melodic guitar solos, and fantasy inspired lyrics, the album marked a major creative leap for the German band and established them as pioneers in the evolving metal scene of the late 80s.

Featuring standout tracks like Initiation, Future World, and Halloween, the album brought a fresh sound that mixed speed metal intensity with progressive structure. It reached number 104 on the Billboard charts in the United States and found even greater success in Europe, laying the foundation for what would become one of metal’s most influential series.

Fun fact: Keeper of the Seven Keys was originally intended to be a double album but the record label split it into two parts, with Part 2 following in 1988.
