On This Day: March 4 1983 My Tutor Premiered in Theaters
On this day March 4 1983 the comedy film My Tutor premiered in theaters. Starring Carol Kaye and Matt Lattanzi the movie followed a teenage boy who hires a private tutor to help him pass his French class but ends up learning much more than just language skills.

Carol Kaye played Terry Green a French tutor who becomes the object of desire for her young student played by Matt Lattanzi. The film became known for its mix of comedy romance and coming of age themes. Over time Terry Green’s character was considered one of the earliest examples of the cougar or MILF archetype in cinema influencing later portrayals in film and television.

My Tutor was a moderate success at the box office and developed a cult following especially among fans of 1980s teen comedies. While it did not achieve mainstream critical acclaim it remains a notable entry in the era’s wave of sex comedies.

Fun fact: Matt Lattanzi who played the lead role was married to pop star Olivia Newton John at the time of the film’s release.

Trivia question: The 1980s were known for teen comedies featuring coming of age storylines. Can you name another 1983 film that explored teenage relationships and romance?
