On this day March 30 1987 Erasure released their second studio album The Circus. Building on the synthpop foundation of their debut the album marked a major turning point for the duo in the UK and helped define their signature sound.

The Circus reached number 190 on the US Billboard charts but was a massive success in the UK where it hit number 6 and spent over a year on the charts. The album included standout tracks like Sometimes It Doesn’t Have to Be and Victim of Love which became fan favorites and boosted the group’s popularity across Europe.
