On this day March 27 1981 the psychological slasher film Eyes of a Stranger premiered in theaters. Directed by Ken Wiederhorn the movie starred Lauren Tewes John DiSanti and introduced Jennifer Jason Leigh in her feature film debut.


Set in Miami the story followed a news anchor who begins to suspect her neighbor may be a serial killer. As she digs deeper into the mystery her blind and deaf sister becomes the next potential target creating a tense and terrifying showdown. The film combined mystery suspense and classic slasher thrills in a gritty urban setting. Eyes of a Stranger brought in $1.1 million at the box office and gained attention for its graphic violence and tense atmosphere. It also marked the start of Jennifer Jason Leigh’s long and successful film career.
