On this day March 22 1985 the martial arts cult classic The Last Dragon premiered in theaters. Directed by Michael Schultz the film starred Taimak as Leroy Green alongside Vanity Julius J. Carry III Chris Murney Keshia Knight Pulliam and Faith Prince.

Blending martial arts action with 80s music and comedy The Last Dragon followed the journey of Leroy Green also known as Bruce Leroy as he sought to achieve the ultimate level of martial arts mastery known as The Glow. Along the way he faced off against the larger-than-life villain Sho’nuff the self-proclaimed Shogun of Harlem. The film became a fan favorite grossing 33 million on a 10 million budget.

Fun fact: Julius J. Carry III’s portrayal of Sho’nuff became one of the most iconic villains in 80s pop culture with his over-the-top performance and memorable one-liners.
