On this day March 2 1984 the neo noir romantic thriller Against All Odds was released in theaters. Directed by Taylor Hackford the film starred Rachel Ward Jeff Bridges James Woods Jane Greer and Alex Karras. The movie was a remake of the 1947 film Out of the Past updating the classic story with a modern setting and intense drama.

The plot followed Jeff Bridges as a down on his luck football player who is hired by a shady businessman played by James Woods to track down a woman played by Rachel Ward who has disappeared. As the search unfolds he becomes entangled in a dangerous web of deceit corruption and romance.

The film was made on a budget of thirteen million dollars and earned twenty one point seven million at the box office. While the movie received mixed reviews its steamy romance scenes and intense performances made it a memorable entry in 1980s cinema.
