On this day March 11 1988 the crime thriller Off Limits premiered in theaters. Directed by Christopher Crowe the film starred Willem Dafoe and Gregory Hines as two military police detectives investigating a series of brutal murders of Vietnamese prostitutes during the Vietnam War.

Blending war drama with crime mystery Off Limits offered a unique take on the genre with tense action and thought-provoking themes. Despite its strong cast and gritty storyline the film struggled at the box office earning only 7.2 million against a 12 million budget. Over time however it has gained recognition as an underrated military crime thriller.

Fun fact: The movie was filmed in Thailand standing in for war-torn Vietnam giving it an authentic atmosphere.
