On This Day: June 20, 1980 - Peter Frampton Released Rise Up
On this day June 20, 1980, Peter Frampton released the promotional album Rise Up. Originally issued for the South American market, the album featured early versions of songs that would later appear on his 1981 release Breaking All the Rules.

Rise Up gave fans a preview of a harder rock edge from Frampton, a shift from his more melodic 70s output. It was a transitional record that hinted at the direction he would take as the decade progressed.

80s insight: Though not widely released, Rise Up captures that in-between moment when many 70s rock artists were trying to stay relevant in the new decade.
