On This Day: July 11, 1987 – Good Morning Miss Bliss Premiered on the Disney Channel
On this day July 11, 1987, Good Morning Miss Bliss premiered on the Disney Channel as a middle school comedy set in Indianapolis. The show starred Hayley Mills as Miss Carrie Bliss, a caring and optimistic teacher trying to guide her students through the challenges of adolescence. Among those students was Zack Morris, played by Mark Paul Gosselaar, who would later become the centerpiece of a new series.

The show ran for just one season with 13 episodes but is best known today as the foundation for what became Saved by the Bell. After the Disney Channel canceled the series, NBC retooled it, relocated the setting to California, added new cast members, and gave it a new identity that launched a cultural phenomenon.
