On This Day: April 3 1987 Police Academy 4 Citizens on Patrol Premiered in Theaters
On this day April 3 1987 Police Academy 4 Citizens on Patrol hit theaters continuing the popular comedy franchise with more slapstick chaos and over the top antics. Directed by Jim Drake the film brought back much of the original cast including Steve Guttenberg Bubba Smith Michael Winslow and George Gaynes along with new faces like Sharon Stone.

The story followed the gang as they launched a new community outreach program called Citizens on Patrol or COP aimed at recruiting everyday people to help support the police force. Of course things quickly spiraled into hilarious disaster as the recruits tried to handle real crime. With a budget of 17 million the movie was a box office hit bringing in 76.8 million worldwide and keeping the Police Academy series rolling strong through the late 80s.

Fun fact: This was Sharon Stone’s first major movie role before going on to become a major star in the 90s.

Trivia question: What future Hollywood star appeared in Police Academy 4 before rising to fame in the 1990s?
