On this day April 29 1988, the sci fi horror comedy Critters 2 The Main Course premiered in theaters. Directed by Mick Garris, the film starred Scott Grimes, Liane Curtis, Don Opper, Barry Corbin, and Tom Hodges.
The story picked up a couple of years after the events of the first movie, with the small town of Grover's Bend once again being terrorized by the ravenous Critters. Mixing humor and creature feature thrills, the movie leaned more into comedy than the original but still delivered plenty of 80s monster fun.
Although it had a budget of 4 million dollars, Critters 2 made only 3.8 million at the box office. Despite the lower earnings it became a cult favorite thanks to its practical effects, quirky humor, and nostalgic 80s vibe.
Fun fact: Critters 2 was the first feature film directed by Mick Garris, who later became known for his work on many Stephen King adaptations.
