On This Day: April 25, 1988 – Hawkwind Released The Xenon Codex
On this day April 25, 1988, British space rock pioneers Hawkwind released their fifteenth studio album The Xenon Codex. Known for their psychedelic soundscapes and sci fi themes, the band continued to evolve with this release while staying true to their cosmic roots.

The Xenon Codex featured a mix of synth driven textures, hard rock riffs, and futuristic lyrics, showing the band’s ongoing interest in blending rock with science fiction storytelling. Though not a commercial hit, the album was well received by longtime fans and became a cult favorite in their large discography.

This release also marked the final studio album with drummer Danny Thompson Jr. before the band's next lineup change.

Fun fact: The album title refers to a fictional futuristic text, in line with Hawkwind’s ongoing fascination with sci fi mythology and space age concepts.
