On This Day: April 17, 1984 - The North South Connection Won the WWF Tag Team Championship
On this day April 17, 1984, The North South Connection, made up of Adrian Adonis and Dick Murdoch, defeated The Soul Patrol — Tony Atlas and Rocky Johnson to win the WWF Tag Team Championship. The match marked a major shift in the tag team division as the powerhouse team of Adonis and Murdoch brought a hard hitting style and old school attitude to the top of the ranks.

Atlas and Johnson had made history as the first Black tag team champions in WWF history, so the title change came with a lot of eyes on it. Known for their brawling approach and gritty teamwork, Adonis and Murdoch quickly became a dominant force in the division and held the titles for nearly a year.

Their reign was packed with intense rivalries and plenty of wild promos that fit the larger than life WWF era.

Fun fact: Dick Murdoch was known for his tough guy image in the ring, but behind the scenes he was also one of the funniest storytellers in the locker room.
