On This Day: April 15, 1988 - Appointment with Death Premiered in Theaters
On this day April 15, 1988, the Agatha Christie mystery Appointment with Death premiered in theaters. Directed by Michael Winner, the film starred Peter Ustinov as the famous detective Hercule Poirot, alongside a cast that included Carrie Fisher and Hayley Mills.

Set against the backdrop of the Middle East, the story followed Poirot as he investigated the suspicious death of a wealthy and controlling matriarch during an archaeological dig. With jealousy, secrets, and lies surrounding every character, Poirot once again had to piece together the clues to expose the killer. Despite its exotic locations and star power, the film struggled at the box office, earning only 960,000 dollars from a 6 million dollar budget. It would be the last time Ustinov played Poirot on the big screen, though he reprised the role on television afterward.

Fun fact: Appointment with Death was filmed on location in Israel and Jordan, adding authentic landscapes to the classic whodunit feel.
