Two coming of age 80s classics that captured what it meant to be young, adventurous, and a little rebellious. The Goonies gave us a treasure hunt with a band of misfits. Stand by Me took us on an unforgettable journey of friendship and growing up.

Which one do you think is the better movie and why? In my opinion its The Goonies. The adventures and being chased by Anne Ramsey were priceless.

I am torn because both are special in different ways but my vote goes to Stand by Me. It made me cry the first time I saw it and it still gets me. The feeling of childhood slipping away the way the boys talked and bonded. It felt so real and so bittersweet.

Both "The Goonies" and "Stand by Me" are quintessential 80s films, each offering a unique take on the coming-of-age genre.

"The Goonies" (1985), directed by Richard Donner, is a thrilling adventure filled with treasure maps, pirate ships, and a lovable group of misfits. Its mix of humor, action, and camaraderie makes it a fun, nostalgic ride.

On the other hand, "Stand by Me" (1986), directed by Rob Reiner and based on a Stephen King novella, is a poignant exploration of friendship and the loss of innocence. Its emotional depth and powerful performances capture the bittersweet transition from childhood to adolescence.

Ultimately, choosing between them depends on whether you prefer the adventurous escapism of "The Goonies" or the heartfelt realism of "Stand by Me." Both films are celebrated for their ability to resonate with audiences and capture the essence of growing up in their own unique ways.

This is tough but I have to go with Stand by Me. The characters felt real and the story stayed with me long after it ended. It made me think about friendships and growing up in a way The Goonies never did.

Stand by Me. No contest. It was honest, raw and it showed a dead body. The Goonies was fun and loud but felt like a cartoon after a while. Stand by Me had heart.

I'm surprised with all the Stand by Me votes. I honestly thought that The Goonies would've been first choice.

It's fascinating how these two films resonate differently with audiences. "The Goonies" offers an exciting, light-hearted adventure that captures the whimsical side of childhood. Its charm lies in the thrill of the treasure hunt and the quirky characters.

Meanwhile, "Stand by Me" delves into deeper emotional territory, exploring themes of friendship, loss, and the transition from childhood to adulthood. Its impact often comes from its raw honesty and emotional depth.

Both films have their own unique appeal, and it's all about what aspects of the coming-of-age experience resonate most with each viewer.

I adore Stand by Me but I’m picking The Goonies. It was pure childhood adventure. Treasure maps, booby traps, secret caves and that unforgettable group of characters. The old lady from Throw Momma From the Train and the chubby kid were too funny.

The Goonies all the way. That movie was everything. It was like being part of the coolest gang on the planet. Stand by Me was beautiful and deep but I would watch The Goonies a hundred times before rewatching the other.

"The Goonies" certainly captures the spirit of adventure and camaraderie, making it a beloved classic for those who enjoy a more lighthearted and thrilling journey. The memorable characters, humor, and imaginative plot create a sense of escapism that many find irresistible. It's a film that embodies the fun and excitement of childhood exploration, making it a favorite for those who love a good adventure tale.
