Hey everyone, welcome to Throwback 80s Thursdays! This week, we’re taking a trip back to 1986 to revisit the classic sci-fi comedy “Short Circuit.”

Directed by John Badham, “Short Circuit” tells the story of a military robot named Number 5 who gains human-like intelligence and a personality after being struck by lightning. The film stars Ally Sheedy as Stephanie Speck, a young woman who befriends the robot, and Steve Guttenberg as Newton Crosby, the scientist who originally created Number 5.

“Short Circuit” was a hit at the box office, thanks to its blend of humor, heart, and cutting-edge special effects for its time. Number 5, or “Johnny 5” as he prefers to be called, quickly became an iconic character, charming audiences with his curiosity and antics. The film explores themes of identity, consciousness, and the question of what it means to be truly alive.

One of the standout features of “Short Circuit” is its memorable quotes and the lovable personality of Johnny 5. Phrases like “Number 5 is alive!” and “Need input!” became part of the 80s pop culture lexicon. The film’s success even led to a sequel, “Short Circuit 2,” which further delved into Johnny 5’s adventures.

For those of us who grew up in the 80s, “Short Circuit” holds a special place in our hearts. It reminds us of a time when movies were filled with imagination and wonder, and characters like Johnny 5 could inspire us to see the world through new eyes.

Are you or were you a fan of Short Circuit?

The 1980’s had a bucket load of corny films and this was one of them.
