On this day, November 21, 1984, Supergirl premiered in theaters in the United States. Starring Helen Slater in the title role, the film followed Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, as she took on the mantle of Supergirl to stop a powerful villain played by Faye Dunaway.

Directed by Jeannot Szwarc, Supergirl aimed to expand the Superman cinematic universe, but it received mixed reviews and struggled at the box office. Despite this, it has since gained a cult following, with fans praising Helen Slater’s performance and the film’s campy charm.

Have you seen Supergirl? How do you think it compares to the Superman films of the era?
