On this day May 22 1982 Joe Cocker released his eighth studio album Sheffield Steel marking a major return for the British rock and soul singer. This was his first album after a brief hiatus and the first of several collaborations with Island Records. The album reached number 105 on the US Billboard 200 and showed a new sonic direction for Cocker thanks to his work with legendary producers Sly and Robbie and the Compass Point All Stars in the Bahamas.
