On this day July 7, 1989, Lethal Weapon 2 premiered in theaters and brought back the explosive chemistry between Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as detectives Riggs and Murtaugh. Directed by Richard Donner, the sequel picked up with the mismatched duo now dealing with South African diplomats using their immunity to cover up a massive drug smuggling operation. Joe Pesci joined the cast as the fast talking Leo Getz, adding a new layer of comic relief to the intense action.
