On this day, December 1, 1989, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation premiered in theaters. Starring Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo, the film follows the chaotic yet heartwarming holiday antics of the Griswold family as Clark attempts to create the “perfect Christmas.”

This holiday classic is filled with memorable moments, from over-the-top light displays to hilarious family mishaps, and has become a staple of seasonal viewing. Fun Fact: Christmas Vacation and Prancer were the only two Christmas movies released in 1989, and Johnny Galecki appeared in both. Galecki, now best known as Leonard Hofstadter on The Big Bang Theory, played Rusty Griswold in Christmas Vacation.
