On this day June 27 1980, Itavia Flight 870 crashed into the Tyrrhenian Sea while en route from Bologna to Palermo, Italy. All 81 passengers and crew on board were killed. The incident, widely referred to as the Ustica Massacre, remains one of Italy's most controversial aviation disasters.
