On this day, January 27, 1989, the comedy film Three Fugitives premiered in theaters, starring Nick Nolte and Martin Short. Directed by Francis Veber, this hilarious and heartfelt movie follows the story of an ex-convict (Nolte) who is mistakenly taken hostage by an inept bank robber (Short). As the pair try to evade the police, an unexpected bond forms between them and a young girl caught up in the chaos.

Three Fugitives blended action, comedy, and emotional moments, with standout performances by Nolte and Short. The film was a remake of Veber’s own French comedy Les Fugitifs, adding a unique American twist to the original story.

Fun Fact: This was one of Martin Short’s first major roles following his breakout success on Saturday Night Live and SCTV.

Trivia Question: In what 1986 film did Martin Short co-star alongside Steve Martin and Chevy Chase as one of the titular trio?
