On this day, November 15, 1986, Frank Zappa released his 47th album, Jazz from Hell. This entirely instrumental album, composed primarily with the Synclavier, showcased Zappa’s experimental side and went on to win a Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. Jazz from Hell pushed the boundaries of jazz fusion and electronic music, further establishing Zappa as a pioneer of avant-garde and complex musical compositions.

Who here has listened to Jazz from Hell? What are your thoughts on Zappa’s experimental work?
