Organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, the song aimed to raise money and awareness for the famine in Ethiopia, blending heartfelt lyrics with a powerful message of global solidarity.

The single was released on December 3, 1984, and became a massive success, reaching #1 in numerous countries, including the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and across Europe. In the United States, it peaked at #13 on the Billboard charts. “Do They Know It’s Christmas” remains one of the most iconic charity songs ever recorded, inspiring similar efforts like We Are the World.
