On this day, November 19, 1980, CBS banned Brooke Shields’ controversial Calvin Klein commercial. The ad featured the now-infamous line, “Do you know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing.”

The suggestive tone of the campaign sparked outrage and debate, with critics arguing it was inappropriate, especially given Shields’ age at the time. Despite (or perhaps because of) the controversy, the ad became iconic, cementing Calvin Klein’s place in pop culture and propelling Brooke Shields’ career even further.
