Overview:
The well-known title track is included here twice (in English and German versions), and the rest of the album, also split down the middle between English and German lyrics, is rounded out by lightweight new wave pop confections like "?" and "Hangin' on You." Although the record's dated production is clearly a souvenir of the early '80s, Nena's bouncy synth pop is likable just the same.

I’m sorry that I missed this. Not sure why I didn’t see it sooner. To answer your question it wasn’t just a standalone single! 99 Luftballons was part of an album. Actually it was part of two of them.The original German version appeared on Nena’s 1983 album called Nena (same as the band’s name). Then in 1984 they released an English language album called 99 Luftballons that included the English version 99 Red Balloons plus a few other translated tracks.

So yeah, it was def part of albums. It just blew up as a huge single worldwide.
