Rainbow Releases Difficult to Cure in 1981
On this day, February 3, 1981, Rainbow released their fifth studio album, Difficult to Cure. Featuring a shift toward a more commercial sound, the album showcased the band's blend of hard rock and melodic hooks, marking their transition into the 80s rock scene.

The album featured Joe Lynn Turner on vocals, replacing Graham Bonnet, and included standout tracks like I Surrender, which became one of Rainbow’s biggest hits. Difficult to Cure reached #50 on the US Billboard 200 charts and performed even better in Europe, particularly in the UK and Germany.

Fun fact: The album’s title track, Difficult to Cure, is an instrumental rock adaptation of Beethoven’s Ode to Joy from Symphony No. 9.

Trivia question: Which former Deep Purple guitarist founded Rainbow?
