On This Day September 22, 1986 – Together We Stand Premiered on CBS
On this day September 22, 1986 the sitcom Together We Stand premiered on CBS. The series starred Elliott Gould and Dee Wallace as David and Lori Randall, parents raising a blended family that included both biological and adopted children from different backgrounds.

The show focused on themes of family, unity, and diversity, delivering a heartfelt look at the challenges and joys of bringing together a household filled with unique personalities. While Together We Stand aimed to balance comedy with meaningful social messages, it ultimately struggled to find its footing in a competitive TV landscape.

After a mid-season retool, the series was renamed Nothing Is Easy, but the changes weren’t enough to improve ratings, and it was canceled after one season. Despite its short run, the show is remembered for its attempt to bring new perspectives to family sitcoms during the 1980s.

80s insight: Together We Stand reflected the 80s trend of experimenting with family sitcoms, exploring blended households and social themes that were ahead of their time.
