On This Day: May 9, 1986 - Nu Shooz Releases Poolside
On this day May 9, 1986, Nu Shooz released their third studio album Poolside, a dance pop record that helped define the sound of mid 80s radio and clubs. Blending synths, funk, and catchy hooks, the album became a breakout success for the Portland based duo.

Poolside reached number 27 on the US Billboard charts and included the hit single I Can’t Wait which became a top ten hit and dance floor staple. The album’s slick production and upbeat energy gave Nu Shooz their biggest commercial moment.

Fun fact: The original version of I Can’t Wait was recorded independently in 1984 and gained attention after a remix by Dutch DJ Peter Slaghuis took off in clubs and caught the attention of Atlantic Records.
