On May 4, 1987, Randy Travis released his second studio album Always and Forever, a landmark record that helped solidify his role in the neotraditional country movement of the 1980s. With its honest lyrics and classic country sound, the album connected with a wide audience and became one of his most successful releases.

Always and Forever reached number 19 on the US Billboard 200 and hit number one on the Country Albums chart. It included hits like Forever and Ever, Amen and I Won’t Need You Anymore which both topped the country singles chart.

Fun fact: Forever and Ever, Amen won the Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance Male and became one of the most enduring country songs of the decade.
