On This Day: May 4, 1984 - Echo and the Bunnymen Release Ocean Rain
On May 4, 1984, Echo and the Bunnymen released their fourth studio album Ocean Rain. Featuring lush orchestration and a dramatic tone, the album marked a shift toward a more cinematic sound that stood out from their earlier post punk work.

Ocean Rain reached number 87 on the US Billboard charts and climbed to number four in the UK. Anchored by the single The Killing Moon, the album became one of the band's most beloved releases and is often considered their artistic peak.

Fun fact: The band recorded parts of Ocean Rain with a 35 piece orchestra to achieve the sweeping, moody atmosphere they were aiming for.
