On This Day: May 3, 1985 - Gotcha! Premieres in Theaters
On May 3, 1985, the action comedy Gotcha! premiered in theaters. Directed by Jeff Kanew, the film starred Anthony Edwards as a college student who becomes entangled in a real life spy mission while traveling through Europe, alongside Linda Fiorentino as a mysterious East German agent.

Blending college humor with Cold War intrigue, Gotcha! delivered a unique mix of teen comedy and espionage action. The film had a budget of 12.5 million dollars but only brought in 10.8 million at the box office, falling short of expectations despite its cult following today.

Fun fact: The paintball style campus game featured in the movie helped spark real life interest in the sport and even influenced the early paintball scene in the mid 80s.
