On This Day: May 28, 1983 - The Second US Festival Began in California
On this day May 28, 1983, the second US Festival kicked off at Glen Helen Park in San Bernardino, California. Created by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, the festival was a bold attempt to blend technology and music on a massive scale. Spanning three days, the event brought together some of the biggest names in rock, pop, and heavy metal for one of the most ambitious concert experiences of the decade.

The 1983 edition featured themed days including New Wave Day, Heavy Metal Day, and Rock Day, with performances by The Clash, INXS, Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen, Judas Priest, David Bowie, and many more. Despite the scorching heat and enormous expenses, the festival drew hundreds of thousands of fans and left a lasting mark on 80s music culture.

Fun fact: Heavy Metal Day on May 29 broke attendance records at the time, with over 375,000 fans gathering to watch a full lineup of metal legends.
