On this day May 26, 1986, AC/DC released Who Made Who, a soundtrack album for the Stephen King film Maximum Overdrive. More than just a movie tie in, the album combined new music with classic AC/DC tracks, helping reintroduce the band to a new generation of rock fans.
The title track Who Made Who became a hit on its own and was the only new song released as a single. Alongside it were instrumentals like D.T. and Chase the Ace, plus iconic songs such as You Shook Me All Night Long and Hells Bells. The album reached number 33 on the Billboard charts and went on to sell over 5 million copies in the United States.
Fun fact: Although Maximum Overdrive was a box office disappointment, the soundtrack became one of AC/DC’s best selling releases of the decade.
