On this day May 22, 1985, the comedy film Brewster’s Millions hit theaters starring Richard Pryor as Monty Brewster and John Candy as his best friend Spike. Directed by Walter Hill, this modern take on the classic story followed a minor league baseball player who must spend 30 million dollars in 30 days in order to inherit 300 million more.

With a budget of 20 million dollars, the film grossed over 45.8 million dollars at the box office. The chemistry between Pryor and Candy helped deliver laughs and heart in a film that has since become a cult favorite from the 80s comedy boom.
