On This Day: May 20, 1988 - Call Me Premiered in Theaters
On this day May 20, 1988, the psychological thriller Call Me premiered in theaters. Directed by Sollace Mitchell, the film starred Patricia Charbonneau as a woman who becomes entangled in a dangerous mystery after receiving a series of disturbing phone calls. The supporting cast included Stephen McHattie, Boyd Gaines, Sam Freed and an early appearance by Steve Buscemi.

The film blended suspense and noir elements, following a storyline of mistaken identity, secrets and unexpected danger. Although it struggled at the box office with a total gross of just 251,000 dollars, Call Me earned praise from some critics for its moody atmosphere and committed performances.

Fun fact: Call Me features one of Steve Buscemi’s earliest film roles, appearing two years before his breakout in Miller’s Crossing.
