On this day May 20, 1982, the final episode of Barney Miller aired on ABC, concluding a celebrated eight season run that spanned 170 episodes. Set in a New York City police precinct, the series balanced humor and heart with sharp writing and thoughtful social commentary.

Led by Hal Linden in the title role, the show became known for its strong ensemble cast, including Max Gail, Abe Vigoda, Ron Glass and Steve Landesberg.
