On May 2, Whitney Houston released the single I Wanna Dance With Somebody, a vibrant and infectious track that quickly became one of the most iconic pop songs of the 1980s. With its joyful energy and powerhouse vocals, the song captured the spirit of a generation and helped solidify Whitney’s place as a global superstar.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 from June 27 through July 10. It also reached number one in the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.

Fun fact: I Wanna Dance With Somebody was written by the same duo who wrote How Will I Know and was originally met with hesitation by Whitney’s label before becoming a worldwide hit.
