On May 2, 1987, Cutting Crew’s hit song (I Just) Died in Your Arms reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. With its dramatic lyrics and soaring melody, the track quickly became one of the defining power ballads of the late 80s.

The song stayed at number one in America from May 2 through May 15 and also topped the charts in Canada, Poland, Norway, and Finland. (I Just) Died in Your Arms helped launch Cutting Crew onto the international stage and remains their signature hit to this day.

Fun fact: Nick Van Eede came up with the lyrics to (I Just) Died in Your Arms while having sex with his girlfriend and later said the phrase just popped into his head in the moment.
