On This Day: May 19, 1986 - The Ramones Released Their Ninth Album Animal Boy
On this day May 19, 1986, punk pioneers The Ramones released their ninth studio album Animal Boy. Known for its heavier production and more political themes, the album marked a shift in tone for the band while still delivering their signature fast and raw sound.

Animal Boy included tracks like Somebody Put Something in My Drink and Bonzo Goes to Bitburg, the latter receiving critical acclaim for its bold commentary. While the album peaked at number 143 on the Billboard charts, it became a cult favorite among fans and captured a unique moment in the band’s evolution during the mid 80s.

This release further solidified The Ramones’ legacy as influential punk icons who were not afraid to push boundaries with both sound and subject matter.

Fun fact: Animal Boy was produced by Jean Beauvoir of the Plasmatics who brought a more polished and hard edged sound to the album.
