On This Day: May 19, 1986 - Genesis Released Their Hit Single Invisible Touch
On this day May 19, 1986, Genesis released their hit single Invisible Touch, a powerful blend of pop rock and synth driven energy that became the band’s first number 1 hit on the US Billboard charts. With Phil Collins on vocals, the song showcased the band’s seamless transition from progressive rock roots into a mainstream pop phenomenon.

Invisible Touch climbed to number 1 in America during the week of June 19 through 25 and also hit number 1 in Canada. The song’s catchy melody and upbeat production made it a radio and MTV favorite and helped launch the album of the same name into multi platinum success.

As one of Genesis’ most recognizable tracks, Invisible Touch cemented the band’s commercial peak in the 1980s and remains a defining moment in their career.

Fun fact: Invisible Touch made Genesis the first British band to have five consecutive top five singles from the same album on the US Billboard Hot 100.
