On this day May 10, 1983, the final episode of Laverne and Shirley aired, closing out a successful eight season run with a total of 178 episodes. The sitcom followed the lives of two blue collar best friends working at a Milwaukee brewery, and later in Burbank, California. Its mix of slapstick comedy and heartfelt friendship made it one of the biggest TV hits of the late 70s.

Laverne and Shirley was the number 1 show in America in both 1978 and 1979 and became a cultural staple with its unforgettable theme song and lovable cast.

Fun fact: The show had a Saturday morning animated spin off called Laverne and Shirley in the Army where the characters were reimagined as soldiers and even teamed up with a cartoon version of The Fonz.
