On This Day: May 1, 1987 - American Ninja 2 Premieres in Theaters
On May 1, 1987, American Ninja 2: The Confrontation was released in theaters. Directed by Sam Firstenberg, the action packed sequel brought back Michael Dudikoff as Joe Armstrong and Steve James as Curtis Jackson, continuing their fight against deadly enemies with high flying martial arts action.

The movie also featured Jeff Weston, Gary Conway, Michelle Botes, and Larry Poindexter. American Ninja 2 leaned into the over-the-top action that fans loved, making it a favorite among 80s martial arts and action movie enthusiasts. While it was not a huge box office blockbuster, it cemented the American Ninja series as a staple of 80s action cinema.

Fun fact: Michael Dudikoff had no martial arts training when he was cast in the original American Ninja but became highly skilled by the time American Ninja 2 was filmed.
