On This Day: May 1, 1984 - Mick Fleetwood Files for Bankruptcy
On May 1, 1984, Mick Fleetwood, the drummer and co-founder of Fleetwood Mac, officially filed for bankruptcy. Despite the band's enormous success through the late 70s and early 80s, Fleetwood’s financial troubles were caused by years of heavy spending, bad investments, and personal challenges.

The bankruptcy filing was a shocking reminder that even members of legendary bands were not immune to financial struggles. Mick Fleetwood eventually recovered financially and remained an important figure in the music world, continuing to lead Fleetwood Mac through future tours and albums.

Fun fact: Around the same time he filed for bankruptcy, Fleetwood was living in a large mansion in Malibu but had virtually no liquid cash left to cover his debts.
