On this day March 9 1984 Howard Jones released his debut album Humans Lib. The album introduced his signature synth-driven sound and thoughtful lyrics making him one of the defining artists of the 80s synth-pop era.

Humans Lib was a massive success in the UK reaching number one on the charts and producing several hit singles including What Is Love New Song and Hide and Seek. In the US the album reached number 59 on the Billboard charts but Jones' influence continued to grow internationally with his distinctive style and uplifting melodies.
